School (Grade 1 – 12)

St Andrew’s remains a small school that caters for the individual needs of every child. This is truly a family that encourages every child to develop into the best that each can achieve.

Values of Tolerance, Participation, Caring, and Uncompromising Standards

Our learners are busy, friendly, dedicated, unprejudiced young people of whom we are very proud.

RELIGIOUS INSTRUCTION: Our School Chaplain instructs our learners from Grade 7 to Grade 11 in Religious Education with particular regard to the Christian faith.  Our Muslim pupils are given permission to receive instruction in the afternoons and to leave school early on Fridays to attend mosque services.

There are also specifically designed services on appropriate themes, with participation by learners as readers, the SCA and the school choirs, are held on one Sunday evening each term at St Matthias Church.

We have 3 SCA’s (Student Christian Associations) that run after school for the different phases. We are truly proud of the commitment of these Christian groups – the active participation of our learners in the SCAs is indicative of a “lived-out” Christianity in our school.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE: Our school is oriented towards learners writing the IEB National Senior Certificate in Grade 12.  We strive to deliver education at the highest levels with many academic achievers every year.

SCIENCE AND LIFE SCIENCE LABORATORIES: Our Life Science (Biology) and Physical Science Laboratories are designed to cater to the IEB Practical Examination requirements, and we are proud of the “Practical” work that these laboratories generate.

COMPUTER CENTRE: We upgrade our computer technology on a continuous basis.  Learners have the use of a wide range of application software, as well as access to the internet. Computer Literacy is taught from Gr R to Gr 9 and Computer Application Technology (CAT), as well as Information Technology (IT), is taught from Gr 10 to Gr 12.

LIBRARY & MEDIA CENTRE: Our attractive and well-stocked Library provides an environment conducive to study and research.  The Media Centre includes an auditorium/theatre which is used for assemblies, debates, smaller dramatic productions and “big-screen” video presentations.

ESKOM EXPO: Children are encouraged to participate from Grade 1 onward. We are extremely proud of our school’s record in both the Welkom Expo for the Free State Goldfields and the National Expo.  Our learners have done extraordinarily well over the last number of years.  Our successes are indicative of an approach to education which stresses in-depth individual research and effective presentation of that research – an undoubtedly valuable life-skill!

HOMEWORK CLASSES: We offer supervised Homework Classes from Monday to Thursday, until 16:00, and have an academic member of staff on duty every afternoon supervising pupils in the Library.

AFTERCARE: We have 2 different After Care’s available. These have additional costs that get paid to the person responsible. Please make arrangements with them directly. The first is run at the preschool, and children from Grade 1 – 7 come after school. This one is run by Mrs Samantha van der Poll (083 640 9059) and Miss Elisa Mondli (071 890 6401).  Mrs Samantha van der Poll (083 640 9059). The second aftercare is run by Mrs Carmen Lory (083 645 3015) and this one runs at the Clubhouse, by the school sports fields.

SCHOOL UNIFORM: School Uniform is available for purchase from our Uniform Shop which is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday’s during the school term (13.30 – 14.30)
