St Andrew’s School, Welkom

Dear Parents

As we approach the end of the third term it is necessary to reflect on some matters, give feedback on others and also remind ourselves of things to come.

  • 60th Anniversary (concert)

A word of appreciation towards all our parents who attended the school’s concert, Friday 4 August 2023, at 1 Toronto. Those who attended would surely agree that it was a memorable evening and that the production and performance spoke of quality on the highest level. We want to thank Mr H Jordaan, Ms L Andrews, Ms E Rossouw and all the staff members for their commitment and enthusiasm in steering this project to its final conclusion.

This was surely a highlight on our calendar and contributed enormously torwards the cohesion of our St Andrew’s family. This show served as a showcase which demonstrated our ability to unite, create and produce something of enormous significance.

  • Regional Expo

The regional Expo took place on the 12th of August 2023 on the campus of CUT and again St Andrew’s was recognised as the school who is setting the pace in organisation, attendance and participation. We acknowledge and commend all our staff members who commit themselves on a daily basis towards the

promotion, maintenance and growth of Expo at our school. We believe that the skills our learners acquire through their participation will benefit them for many years to come.

The school won the prize for the most entries as well as the most medals received. We include a summary of our most recent results later in this letter.

  • School Council Elections

We want to thank the outgoing Council members for their loyal service, commitment and hard work during the term 2022/2023. Being on Council is a huge privilege, but coincides with a huge responsibility, and we want to thank them for answering the call of duty and for being faithful in the execution thereof. We also want to congratulate the new Council members who were inducted on the 18th of August 2023. We wish them all of the best as they embark on this challenging, but also rewarding journey.

  • Academics

The official test week starts on the 28th of August and we are calling upon our parents to support and encourage our learners, especially during this period of formal assessments. While our learners are not writing a formal examination during the 3rd term, it is important that all tests and other assessments are approached with the necessary commitment, as all of these

marks will contribute towards the mark for the 3rd term.

We wish our Grade 12s all of the best as they prepare for their preliminary examinations which will take place during September. They are now in the final stages of their school career and will also need the constant support and encouragement of our school community.

  • Finances

We have now reached the point that the school has to be bold and decisive in dealing with outstanding school fees. We cannot afford a situation whereby some parents exploit the school and jeopardise our sustainability.

This is an urgent appeal then to all our parents who have committed themselves by signing a legal document, to actually honour that particular financial obligation in the same way as the school is honouring their obligation of providing quality education.
